MHA on the move: Run, Walk, Dance!
Register Now to Raise Awareness and End Stigma
Against Mental Illness!
Gala Dance Celebration includes special guests Jane Pauley, Aline Raisler,
Yvonne Tropp and Martin Ginsburg; Tipper Gore is Honorary Co-Chair
Elmsford, NY, June 20, 2008 - The Mental Health Association of Westchester County,
Inc. (MHA) is gearing up to Run, Walk, and Dance on Saturday, September 20, 2008,
starting at 9 am in FDR State Park, Yorktown Heights. This one-day, two-part fundraising
event features a 5K run/walk and 1-mile kids’ race followed by food and fun for the entire
family.
Lace Up Your Running Shoes
Join special guests Darlene Rodriguez of WNBC-TV, Lou Young of WCBS-TV and CNN’s
Gerri Willis, among others, as more than 500 runners and walkers gather to raise
awareness of the stigma associated with mental illness while generating much needed funds
to provide mental health services Westchester County residents regardless of their ability to
pay. The Taconic Road Runners Club is the official race timer for the morning portion of the
event.
“Mental illness and emotional disturbance touches all of us and the stigma associated with
seeking help can be devastating” says MHA’s CEO Dr. Amy Kohn. “MHA on the move:
Run, Walk, Dance! is an amazing community event that brings people together to raise
awareness and to break down barriers that prevent people from seeking the help and
treatment they need.”
Funds from MHA on the move: Run, Walk, Dance! help to underwrite treatment programs
and services for Westchester residents in dire need that are unable to pay for the mental
health services they require. These funds will also offset the cost of our innovative Housing
Program, a new initiative which provides at-risk individuals (adults and their children) with a
safe, stable environment they can call “home.”
Register Now and Build a Team
By registering now, individuals can start building teams of family, friends, colleagues and co-workers.
Prizes for individuals and teams, including a grand prize of one roundtrip airline
ticket on JetBlue, are being offered. To register for the Run/Walk portion of this event,
contact Connie Moustakas at (914) 592-5900, extension 209 or email at
onthemove@mhawestchester.org.
Put On Your Dancing Shoes
After the run/walk, join MHA for the “Dance!” portion of the event, which starts at 7 pm at the
Marros in Rye, NY. At the Gala Dance Celebration, MHA will honor television journalist and
author Jane Pauley, Westchester developer and community advocate Martin Ginsburg, long-
time MHA friend and supporter Aline Raisler and CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate)
volunteer Yvonne Tropp. Tipper Gore is the honorary co-chair for the event. For information
