Transitional EmploymentTransitional Employment opportunities are available to members of the Sterling Club. These are part-time, temporary jobs. Members are hired at competitive wages and are asked to make a six- to nine-month commitment to the employer and to the Sterling Club for its support of them in this employment. Is It For Me?If you:
the Transitional Employment Unit of the Sterling Club may be for you. For information about Transitional Employment, call Sharon Caplan at 914-949-1212, extension 215, call our Information and Referral Service at 914-345-5900, extension 240, or send e-mail to help@mhawestchester.org. What We DeliverThe Transitional Employment (TE) Unit of the Sterling Club develops temporary, entry-level, part-time employment in the community for members of the Club. Job Coaches of the TE Unit work with both employers and members to help stabilize the employment placement. Initially, there is a great deal of support from the Job Coaches. After the member is able to meet standards of the employer, the support provided by the Job Coach gradually fades from on-site to off-site. However, the Coach continues to be available as needed. The Transitional Employment Unit also has developed placements for work crews of eight to twenty members where there is constant staff support. The Sterling Club guarantees an employer that someone will always be able to cover the Transitional Employment job. If the employee is unable to come to work, another Sterling Club member or staff person will fill the position. This guarantees coverage, which is among the benefits to potential employers. After successfully completing a TE rotation (6-9 months), members are offered other TE positions. Members can also opt for more permanent employment opportunities. Those interested in or involved in Transitional Employment meet every Monday from 1:30 PM to 2:30 PM at the Sterling Club. This meeting includes discussions related to obtaining and maintaining transitional employment, as well as work behaviors and attitudes needed for success in the world of work. Transitional Employment dinners, which are held bi-monthly, allow working members to share experiences. This provides an inspirational forum for those thinking about working as well as reinforcing the accomplishments of those who are already working.
