Sample Letter to an Elected Official

October 19, 2006

Governor George E. Pataki
State Capitol
Albany, NY 12224

Dear Governor Pataki:

I am writing on behalf of The Center for Policy and Advocacy to urge you to sign Timothy’s Law, S.8482/A.12080, when it comes to your attention. This legislation would take a significant step towards assuring that mental health services are accessible to people whose health coverage is provided by their employers.

Greater access to treatment will reduce suffering due to untreated mental illness; it will increase the productivity of New York State’s workforce, and it will bring down overall health care costs. And it will not appreciably increase the cost of mental health services.

Timothy’s Law is good for people and good for business.

We hope you will sign this important legislation.

Sincerely,

Michael B. Friedman
Director
The Center for Policy and Advocacy
Of the MHA of NYC and Westchester
