Our Curricula

Education is a powerful tool. To help protect our youth and to dispel misconceptions about mental illness, our staff members have developed curricula and related training programs to be used in the school setting.

Is It For Me?

The curricula have been developed for use in schools.

Beyond Good Touches/Bad Touches© is appropriate for use with elementary students
The Adolescent Sexual Assault and Harassment Prevention Curriculum© is appropriate for middle school and older students.
Understanding Mental Disorders© is appropriate for fifth grade and older students.

All curricula are also appropriate for staff and faculty and other adults.

What We Deliver

Beyond Good Touches/Bad Touches - A Child Sexual Abuse and Abduction Prevention Curriculum©
This curriculum was developed for use with Kindergarten through 6th grade students. It may be used to satisfy schools' requirements to teach child sexual abuse and abduction prevention.

Adolescent Sexual Assault and Harassment Prevention Curriculum©
This curriculum can be part of an effective school plan to educate students, faculty and other employees about what sexual harassment is, how to prevent it and how to respond if it occurs.

Understanding Mental Disorders©
This educational program is appropriate for fifth grade and older students as well as adults. The purpose of this program is to reduce the stigma which may be associated with mental illness and reduce fears of the mentally ill by teaching what mental disorders are and are not, and that they are treatable. This guide was developed by our staff members and the Westchester Department of Community Health.

We provide training sessions to teach school personnel about the curricula presentation and related issues. We are also available to provide presentations to parents.

Where

Training workshops for Beyond Good Touches/Bad Touches© and the Adolescent Sexual Assault and Harassment Prevention Curriculum© may be offered at one of MHA's sites, at Southern Westchester BOCES or at Putnam/Northern Westchester BOCES. In addition, schools and/or districts may arrange training sessions for their staff at their location or at one of our sites.

Training sessions are usually scheduled during the school day. Telephone consultation is available Monday through Friday 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM by calling 914-345-0700, extension 311.

Services are available in English only.

Cost

For training workshops on Beyond Good Touches/Bad Touches© and the Adolescent Sexual Assault and Harassment Prevention Curriculum© held at Southern Westchester BOCES and at Putnam/Northern Westchester BOCES, the fee is $85.00 per attendee and includes a copy of the curriculum.

Training workshops for individual schools or districts are scheduled upon request and fees are determined by the number of participants.
