Partners-in-Parenting (PIP)
Community-Based Programs

The Partners-in-Parenting Program (PIP) provides home-based psychotherapy and parenting skills training to parents or other adults who suffer from a mental illness and who are raising children. This includes mothers and fathers, as well as grandparents and others who have responsibility for bringing up children and adolescents. Partners-in-Parenting operates out of the Northern Westchester Counseling Center, a clinic licensed by the New York State Office of Mental Health. PIP services are also available to currently homeless families through our Shelter-Based Program.

Is It For Me?

Program participants must:

  • Be Westchester County residents
  • Have or be eligible for Preventive Services through the Department of Social Services and/or a history of homelessness
  • Be an adult with responsibility for raising children or adolescents
  • Suffer from a mental illness
  • Have difficulty getting to a community mental health clinic

For information regarding services through this program, please contact Program Director Patrice Monaghan at 914-666-4646, extension 120, or email us at help@mhawestchester.org.

What We Deliver

Partners-in-Parenting therapists come to your home (or another location convenient for you) to provide individual therapy for adults and parenting skills training. A psychiatrist at the Northern Westchester Counseling Center also provides medication therapy. (For a further description of medication therapy please see the section on Adult Treatment.)

The Partners-in-Parenting staff will also assist you in finding other services that you may need - such as child care or vocational training. The staff will help you to advocate for yourself and your children at school, DSS (Department of Social Services) and in other settings.

Where

The Partners-in-Parenting therapists make every attempt to meet with you in your home. Therapists can also meet with you at your job, school or program site, if this is more convenient for you.

When

The therapists in the Partners-in-Parenting Program generally schedule appointments between 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM Monday through Friday. The therapists make every effort to work with participants’ schedules.

Partners-in-Parenting therapists are also available via an after hours cell phone for emergency coverage on weeknights and weekends.

Languages Spoken

Therapy services are available in both English and Spanish; a Spanish-speaking psychiatrist is available.

Cost

Most services are billed to Medicaid (including managed care Medicaid) and Medicare with no direct cost to you. If you do not have insurance coverage, a fee can be set based on a sliding scale.

No one is denied services because of an inability to pay.
