Natural History Museum - Manhattan
American Museum of Natural History

This is a favorite. There’s something interesting here for everybody, from the recently renovated dinosaur halls to the human evolution displays. The North American totem poles are popular as is the Hall of Gems and Minerals which includes meteors and diamonds in its collection. The sea creatures area, with a life-sized model of a whale hanging from the ceiling, is impressive. Kids are also very impressed by the carefully designed dioramas found in the Anthropology Halls of the museum. When walking around, notice that many of the museum’s marble walls, especially those in the Great Hall, contain fossilized seashells and small creatures that look like snails. Also at the museum are kid-pleasers like the Hayden Planetarium and the Naturemax, a theater that shows nature adventure movies on a gigantic screen.
