The Internet is a wonderful tool for education and for leisure. It is a powerful way for children to stay “in touch” with friends and “chat” with new acquaintances. But the Internet has a dark side, too.

Children may access Internet sites that expose them to hatred, violence, prejudice, pornography, and child molesters.

People our children “chat” with may not be who they say they are. Adults who take advantage of children use the Internet to “meet” new children and to establish relationships with unsuspecting children.

The lengthy “grooming” process through which abusers gradually entice children into face-to-face relationships may be substantially shortened through Internet “relationships”.
