Internet Safety Links
Many sites for parents and children provide information about child safety on the Internet. Some that we have liked are these:
Association for Library Service to Children
http://www.ala.org/ALSCTemplate.cfm?Section=ALSC
This division of the American Library Association maintains a site with information about books, recordings, videotapes and software
for children, including safety on the Internet.
Children’s Partnership
http://www.childrenspartnership.org
This nonprofit organization, whose mission is to inform leaders and the public about the needs of America’s children,
maintains a site which includes “The Parents’ Guide to the Information Superhighway”. The guide contains information about
computer use as well as safety. Click on the “Parents’ Guide to the Information Superhighway” near the top left of the home page.
Westchester Library System
http://www.westchesterlibraries.org/owls/
Our own Online Westchester Library System maintains "OWLS for kids, teens, parents, teachers, and librarians".
Visitors to this site can access a wealth of information including homework help and research resources, a link which promises
answers to e-mail questions within 48 hours, lists of recommended reading for kids, fun recreational links, information about things
to do and see in Westchester, and pages in Spanish listing sites and search engines in Spanish. For parents there is information
about parenting issues as well as about reading, education, and safety issues. There is parent information in Spanish as well.
Teens will find links to sites geared to their interests: music, entertainment, sports, driving, colleges, as well as school, research,
and college and career information.
