Volunteering for MHA of Westchester
Trained volunteers, supported by our professional staff, provide caring service to persons throughout
Westchester County. Examine the programs listed below, call or e-mail those who know the programs best
and consider how you can make a difference as one of our volunteers.
One-To-One Mentors
One-to-One Mentors promote a supportive, one-to-one relationship between an adult and a child.
The relationship facilitates a child’s educational, social and personal growth. The mentor takes a
younger person under his or her wing and offers advice, support and encouragement.
CASA Volunteers
Volunteers in the Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) program advocate in Family Court to
insure a foster child’s access to needed services and a permanent home.
Adult Home Peer Support Volunteers
Adult Home Peer Support Volunteers give residents of adult homes with mental
illness companionship, information and a positive attitude that people with mental
illness can and do recover.
Family Abuse Court Service Volunteers
In Westchester County, 5,000 women are battered and 4,500 children are physically or sexually
abused each year. Family Abuse Court Service Volunteers help victims of family violence negotiate
the court system and obtain relief from the abuse they experience.
Long Term Care Ombudsman Volunteers
Our Long Term Care Ombudsman Program (LTCOP) Volunteers advocate for the 9,000 frail, elderly residents in
Westchester’s nursing homes, adult homes and assisted living facilities.
Other Volunteer Opportunities
MHA provides a number of additional short and long-term volunteer opportunities,
many of which can be tailored to your interests and schedule. You can help provide
holiday gifts to families in need, assist individuals with serious mental illness, support
our community education or fundraising departments, join our Board of Directors or
serve on event planning or other committees.
