Psychiatrist or Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner - Yonkers, NY

Join our Team! We have an exciting new opportunity for a Psychiatrist or Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner in our OnTrackNY Program in Yonkers, NY.

SUMMARY of DUTIES
OnTrackNY is an innovative treatment program that serves adolescents and young adults (16-30 years old) who are within one year of experiencing the onset of non-affective psychosis. The Psychiatrist or Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner will work on a small multidisciplinary team providing coordinated and assertive treatment and support in the earliest stages of psychosis.  The Psychiatrist or Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner will support recovery by providing services that reflect our deeply held values that include the recognition of individual rights of self-determination, choice, shared decision-making and collaboration.  When possible Psychiatrist or Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner will utilize evidence-based practices, always embracing a trauma-informed and person-centered approach.  The Psychiatrist or Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner provides psychiatric and medical assessment and treatment; development, maintenance, and supervision of medication and psychiatric and medical treatment policies and procedures.

SPECIFIC DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Conducting psychiatric assessments, including psychiatric history, course of illness, response to treatment, mental status examination, and DSM V diagnoses; present assessment results at team meetings and case conferences.
2. Prescribing psychotropic medications and conducting regular assessments of therapeutic responses and side effects, including education of clients regarding psychotropic medications.
3. Conducting metabolic monitoring (tracking blood pressure, weight, and body mass index) for clients
4. Obtaining and ensuring processing of lab work and lab results, incorporating into electronic health record
5. Administering depot injections to patients on-site and in the community when clients are not attending appointments on-site
6. Working with clients and families to collaboratively address medication issues
7. Coordinating care for medical issues, including providing referrals to community medical providers, scheduling appointments, and liaising with medical providers to obtain records
8. Conducting quarterly health screenings  
9. Providing wellness counseling and education, addressing issues including healthy eating habits, exercise and fitness, stress management, birth control, and safer sex
10. Providing basic first aid and managing medical emergencies and crisis situations appropriately
11. Use individual client data to inform clinical decision-making and identify areas for quality improvement; use data to track client progress over time.
12. Share client data with clients to help facilitate shared-decision making and keep client informed of his/her progress
13. Follow the established policies & procedures.
14. Maintain appropriate professional standards.
15. Other related duties.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE and SKILLS
1. Principles, practices and methods of community mental health treatment including interviewing, assessment, marriage, family, child, and group counseling and crisis intervention.
2. Adult and/or child psychology, including development and psychopathology.
3. Applicable city, state and federal guidelines and laws affecting mental health treatment, services and reporting procedures.
4. Characteristics and types of mental and emotional illness.
5. Principles of psychological growth and development.
6. Community mental health resources and services and other health, financial, social, recreational cultural, housing and legal advocacy services.
7. Identifying the cultural problems affecting mental health practices.
8. Familiarity with and ability to use an Electronic Health Record system.

QUALIFICATIONS
1. The candidate must be a NYS Licensed Psychiatrist or Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner. 
2. The candidate must exhibit patience, flexibility, compassion and a deep belief in recovery.
3. Training or experience working with adolescents and/or young adults with serious mental health conditions, experience in community-based mental health services and experience with a team approach are required.
4. Basic Computer knowledge is required.
5. Must comply with the standards and requirements of all applicable federal, state, local and other laws, rules and regulations governing medical services.
6. Must comply with all professional standards and all applicable agency policies and procedures, including the agency’s compliance program and code of conduct.
7. Demonstrates knowledge and support of agency’s safety and ethical policies, practices and reports unsafe environments/practices to supervisor in a timely manner.
8. Demonstrates understanding of HIPAA Privacy Standards and related agency policies.
9. Must be reliable and able to work independently and understand the importance of maintaining confidentiality.
10. The Psychiatrist or Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner must be cleared NYS Justice Center through fingerprinting for a Criminal History Records search.
11. The Psychiatrist or Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner must be cleared by the Justice Center for the Protection of People with Special Needs Staff Exclusion List (SEL) and the New York State Medicaid Exclusion List.
12. The Psychiatrist or Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner must be cleared by the NYS Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS) for instances of child abuse and/or neglect.
13. The Psychiatrist or Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner must be legally eligible to work in the United States.
