Help is only three digits away thanks to new 988 dialing code
988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline

Getting help is easier than ever thanks to 988, a new three-digit dialing code that routes callers to the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, formerly known as the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline. Available to callers across the United States beginning on July 16, 2022, the new three-digit code connects individuals in need to a national network of local crisis centers that provides free and confidential emotional support to people in suicidal crisis or emotional distress 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Help can be reached by calling or texting 988, as well as by chatting online at 988lifeline.org. Trained counselors are available to listen, provide support and connect to resources if necessary. Support in Spanish is available, and interpretation services for more than 150 other languages can be accessed. The Lifeline's previous phone number, 1-800-273-TALK (8255) will still remain available to people in crisis.
