New Fund Created In Honor Of Yvonne Tropp, Lifelong Mamaroneck Resident and Dedicated Children’s Welfare Volunteer

The Mental Health Association of Westchester is pleased to announce the recent creation of a fund honoring Yvonne Tropp, a long-serving volunteer and Board Member of the agency.

The Yvonne D. Tropp Fund – formed by Ms. Tropp’s family in celebration of her 85th birthday – benefits MHA’s Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) volunteer program, of which Ms. Tropp has been a dedicated volunteer for 16 years. Assigned by Family Court Judges, CASA volunteers act as strong voices for children in foster care or at risk of placement, advocating for their physical and behavioral health and educational needs.

Upon retiring from a high-powered finance career, Ms. Tropp – a lifelong Mamaroneck resident – was determined to devote more of her time to volunteer work related to children, a passion that was sparked early in her life through charity work as a newlywed. In 2001, she was sworn in as a CASA volunteer, a decision that would eventually take her all over Westchester County. More than once, her work has even taken her to prison, where she has provided support for a child during a visit with a parent.

“I believe in giving back to the world – we need more volunteers who can dedicate their time and hearts to causes like CASA,” said Ms. Tropp. “I am touched that my family has chosen to honor my recent milestone birthday with this fund, and I am thrilled to know that CASA will be supported by my family and friends for the rest of my life – and beyond!”

Soon after becoming a CASA volunteer, Ms. Tropp’s advocacy for the children of Westchester led to a position on MHA’s Board of Directors, where she is a powerful voice for the agency. Ms. Tropp is also a member of MHA’s new Trauma-Informed Care steering committee, helping the organization prepare for and implement new standards of care throughout the agency.

“It has been such a pleasure to have Yvonne Tropp as a CASA volunteer for the past 16 years,” said Jackie Boissonnault, Director of Children’s Advocacy Services at MHA. “During her time with us, she has been a fierce and compassionate advocate for 17 children. The Yvonne D. Tropp Fund will enable us to serve even more of Westchester’s most needy children.”
